Finished off Darkspace Hasami. She’s a character from Soda Pop Miniature’s Relic Knights game. This is the cosplay version of Hasami who works for an alternate faction, in this case, the Noh Empire. The costume is based off Ryuko Matoi’s battle outfit from Kill la Kill (a very weird anime). The connection is that regular Hasami (hasami means “scissors” in Japanese) uses a giant pair of scissors, and Ryuko uses a “scissor blade,” which is half of a giant pair of scissors (a scissor?). I had to watch a few episodes to learn that and figure out what was even going on with her outfit.
The miniature is in the new resin material, which I think is produced by Prodos Games. It’s definitely superior to the PVC they were using before, but is not without its faults. I painted the majority of the miniature at ReaperCon 2016, using the limited edition MSP Ghostly Moss. Other dominant colors are P3 Coal Black, MSP Clear Magenta, VGC Purple Ink and MSP Olive Skin Triad. A special shout-out to Adrift, who suggested the MSP Clear Magenta (he described it as Victoria’s Secret Pink) for her panties which looked so great I used it in a bunch of other spots as well. I had a fun time getting a nice smooth blend on the scissors, but am not usually interested in spending that much time on minis.

I fished this cute girl out of the Box o’ Goodwill from the Reaper forums, so it’s only right that she make her way back to another forum member as an exchange mini for Secret Sophie 2016. Tricksay wanted to receive “open to anything”; I love when people pick that, because I can just paint whatever I feel like. Thanks to Bonwirn for giving me a bunch of Hirst Arts blocks to make the diorama out of.
After I took these pictures I realized: OMG, you can’t even see the rear half that I spent so much time on. Despite the chance of ruining the mini, I carefully drilled a magnet hole through the bottom of the base so she can be removed. I threw in a gaming base as well for picture taking purposes, and just in case Tricksay ever wants to use her in a game. I was joking with my friends at paint day that “no, those are her adventuring clothes; convenient necklace, weird skirt-thong and all.”
Darkspace Hasami from Relic Knights. I’m loving the Spectral Moss/Clear Magenta combination. Thanks to Adrift for suggesting Clear Magenta.
Experimenting with the new airbrush, inks, and techniques I learned at ReaperCon.
Misc Reaper mini I picked up at ReaperCon
After a complete restart (rare for me), I finished up my first model from Tin Man Miniatures. I don’t recall anyone of this description showing up in ERB’s Mars series, but it has been a long time since I read them.
I was super-excited to find a miniature with pigtails, and although red martians are supposed to have dark hair there was already so much dark on her that she needed something lighter. After painting the hair, it was TOO light and drew way too much attention, so she needed something else to balance it out a bit – thus the periwinkle bikini. I mean, once you’ve committed to wearing a mask/capelet/bikini combo, is coordinating color really a concern anymore?
The base is from Micro Arts Studios, skull pointed forward so we know she’s bad-butt.
The main thing that bother me about her is that she does not have the “butt-toothed vampire” thing going on on the rear of her thighs. I used an airbrush to do the primary levels of skin highlighting, and it really stood out when I tried to paint the back of her legs with a brush. I scraped it off and left it mostly alone.
I’ve been painting recently, but I haven’t taken any pictures in a while. Rather than post nothing, I’ll post crappy pictures of stuff that’s currently on my table.
Relic Knights – Princess Malya Questing Knight (and base)
Relic Knights – Mr. Tomn (Malya’s cypher, he’s done, just waiting on Malya)
Tin Man Minis – Sisterhood Assassin
My FLGS had a clearance sale on some GW stuff, so I picked up a treeman ancient for a reasonable prince
Relic Knights – Cosplay Candy (as Chun Li)
Kingdom Death – Survivor Candy (Soda Pop Minis/Kingdom Death crossover mini)
Just a little bit of work on the Sisterhood Assassin. I think I will use the same formula on her cloak as on Josephine (aka, the Scale 75 example). I’m not sure what color to make her boots. She also has some belts and arm decorations.
