It’s fun to paint bright green for a change of pace.

A fun mini to paint up for the Reaper Miniatures Spring Mini Exchange. My partner wanted a) female b) non-human skin-tones c) horns, d) practical clothes.
3 out of 4 isn’t bad.
Her wings got replaced with the wings from the Bones 3 Sophie, as Princess’s wings got fatally bent in transit. I used zenithal priming for the major shadows and highlights, MSP Clear Red and DR Payne’s Gray for the red, MSP Bright Skin triad + MSP Splattered Blood for her skin. VMA Steel over MSP Midnight Blue for the weapons. The same Midnight Blue is the base for her thong-dress.
One of the quickest, if not the quickest, ‘jack I have painted up. Directional highlighting, red ink, attempting to highlight to yellow (and losing nearly all of it when I attempted to red back over it), then highlighting with off-white and putting orange ink over that. Generous edge highlights on the red, black, steel and brass and done.
#23 now hold the award for my favorite Khador jack that I’ve painted. It’s all about the red.
Pictures from right before the orange ink
Breachstorm (http://www.breachstorm.com/) is a new skirmish game a friend of my is making. I had a chance to play a short demo game, and I plan on playing a few more times before it hits Kickstarter, when I get a free Saturday. One of the factions (Homeworld Confederacy) is a somewhat generic space marine faction, so I decided to paint up a bunch of my dudes that were just sitting around. When the Kickstarter comes, I am most interested in the race of Lion dudes.
The original plan was to rely primarily on the airbrush, but I ended up throwing a wash and dry brushing medium grays, then edge highlighting in white gray. Still, didn’t take too much time.
Diamond Corps (Relic Knight, Black Diamond faction)
material: injection molded PVC plastic
I will use these guys as Homeworld Confederacy Riflemen and Fire Team Leader
Diamond Corps Medic (Relic Knight, Black Diamond faction)
material: spin-cast resin
The camera did not like the all-blue shot of just the shield and dramatically shifted the color. I would like to get a DSLR one day, but I don’t take $500+ worth of photos.
she doesn’t have a role in Breachstorm, but I wanted to paint up this model at the same time as the other Diamond Corps models
CSM Alex-117 (Relic Knight, Black Diamond faction)
material: spin-cast resin
He will play the role of Capt. Johan Lukas
IMEF: Reggie Van Zandt (Reaper Miniatures, Bones Chronoscope)
material: injection molded PVC plastic (Bones)
Reggie will be used as a Support Gunner for a Fire Team
These guys took my FOREVER to complete. I started cleaning up the metal back in August, got them primed in Oct/Nov and have been slowly working on them ever since. There is a lot of stuff on them, they’re awkard to hold, and there are 6 of them. I definitely got lazy near the end, just to get them finished.
Color scheme is more-or-less standard legion for me. Some other colors: ulks are RMS Ginger Cookie + Dusky Skin Highlight (to make it cooler/more blighted), and the darker leather is RMS Ruddy Leather. The leader model’s body is converted from a Beast Mistress.
Wow, these ladies were fun to paint. The hair in particular was fun. RMS Carrottop Red, Harvest Brown and Blond Shadow, all of them highlighting up to Blond Highlight. Metal was VMC Oily Steel with P3 Armor Wash + Agrax Earthshade (2:1 or 3:1), then highlighted with P3 Quicksilver. Skin was directional highlighting + DR Burnt Umber ink. Main skirt was highlighting + a mix of green and brown ink (to create a dark brown).
I tried out my new static grass applicator. It made a giant mess, but at least the grass looks nice, and did a decent job of getting up underneath (next time I’ll apply the grass before gluing the figure).
